This section will feature some positive insight from not only myself, but other Army wives. We all know that in order for an Army wife to 'survive' this lifestyle, it takes others. It takes other wives and those within our community who desire to see you succeed as an Army wife. From your personal relationships to your goals for life, we want you to be overcome with positive support. Right here is where we hope you will indulge in the opportunity to increase your awareness about others and yourself. If you have some positive words of wisdom to share, please feel free to email me at moni@armywifemagazine.com.
There is nothing more beautiful then watching a child taking his or her first steps! Each parent knows that with that step their child will begin their awesome journey. This starts a new phase of exploring their own surroundings…without being tucked in someone else’s arms everywhere they go. Each of us has special memories of being elevated to new stages in our life. From the first time you walked to the school bus alone to first dates, slumber parties, heading off to college, graduating from college, promotions on the job, and moving into your first home. We all know this list could go on for days! That is the wonderful part about life and growth…as long as we never give in to challenges we can soar to new heights!
Strength and Love for Your Journey

I know that I felt that freedom, the day I left home for college. I remember the pride in my parent’s eyes as they gave me their blessings to walk into the freedom of my new independence. Honestly, I was very nervous about this new found self-determination and empowerment. I actually left my family home and the state I had called home since the day I was born. Certainly, I was concerned about how I would succeed without my parents close by my side! The great thing about excellent parents is that…they prepare us ahead of time for our future.
The week before I left home for college my parents had a family meeting with me as the only guest! In that meeting my father explained something to me that has kept me to this very day!!! Daddy said, “Tara…you are about to begin a very special journey in your life…as you go along your way no matter what happens…whether it be good or bad…keep God in your heart and your mother and I in your pockets (we will always stand beside you) and there is nothing you can not accomplish!!” It is amazing how some words stay with you.
That family meeting so long ago still stands as source of strength for me. Throughout college and today the principles and value system my parents placed in me have been my greatest strength. Because the truth is my friend’s…life is a beautiful gift wrapped in a journey that can from time to time feel like rocky mountain climbing. You know the intense feeling that everything is all up hill, with absolutely no sight of the finish line.
At moments like this I am reminded of a poem called Invictus written by William Ernest Henley. When you have some free time, please take a moment to read this poem. I am confident you will find yourself standing up feeling powerful and embracing your self-worth! Because every victory begins with knowing you are worth it!
As an Army spouse…I am sure this story reminds you of many stories. Maybe even your first farewell to your family and friends as you started your journey with your husband. There had to be so much to be excited about, yet the fear of the uncertain loomed in the shadows of what if. However, being the strong Army spouse that you are…nothing could stop you from taking this amazing journey!
