You won’t find this class at any Jazzercise© facility. However, it is available for purchase on their website, www.jazzercise.com for just $16.99 plus shipping and handling.  Knowing how much this workout rocked my core in Chicago; I had to have it and bought it!

When you start the DVD, you have the option of the 30-minute workout or the 60-minute workout, as well as some behind-the-scenes footage. The first day I had the DVD, I only had time for the 30-minute-workout. I have two small children, who were due to get off the bus, but I wanted to squeeze this in, and I was totally able to. The workout starts with a warm-up/isolation, continues with some ab-burning cardio routines that are easy to adapt to if you need to switch to a lower impact due to any knee or foot issues. My favorite part was the 6 ½ minute abdominal burn. You truly do target every muscle in your abdominals; the rectus abdominis, the oblique’s, and even the transverse abdominis.

Young and Shanna both keep you motivated the entire workout with their great attitudes and their awareness for how your body truly feels by the time the 6 ½ minutes is over-FATIGUED! The session then ends with a cardio stretch that really completes the workout. I was sweaty and taking deep breaths, but I felt taller; my core felt more stabilized and tighter; and I was ready to get my kids off the bus and help them finish their day.

The next day I planned time to do the 60-minute workout. It started and ended the same as the 30-minute workout, and still included the 6 ½ minute ab burning session, but the cardio was extended and I felt like I did even more core stabilization work, as well as more to target my abdominal muscles. By the time I was done with this workout, I was dripping with sweat, and my abs felt even stronger than before. After doing Dancin’ Abs™ for just two days, and only an hour and a half of working out at that, I already felt taller and stronger in my core area.

One of my favorite things about Dancin’ Abs™ is that both of the workouts are all standing. You don’t overuse your neck and back by lying on the floor doing crunches. You are able to really see what Shanna and Young are trying to get your body to do, because you are looking at them the entire time. They remind you to breathe and take breaks if you need to, and they push your body to the limit to help you to the big finish. Both Instructors are so knowledgeable with their physiology that they can explain exactly what you should and should not be doing in order to minimize the chance of injuring yourself. The music is fun, and you literally just dance your way into better looking abs.

This workout is perfect for the beginner or the advanced-even the fellow instructor, such as myself. I love that Jazzercise© has made this available to the general public. If a busy mother of two, such as myself, can dedicate the time for this enjoyable workout, so can you! Grab up your copy now, and thank me later!

Jazzercise is a 60-minute group fitness class combining cardio, strength, and stretch moves for a total body workout. It includes moves from all styles of dance, with some added Pilates, yoga and sometimes kickboxing-cram it all into a one-hour class so you don’t need the gym! Lucky for me, by trade, I am a Jazzercise© Instructor. I have the luxury of being able to go to plenty of amazing Jazzercise© classes during the week, as well as teach them! I also had the most fantastic opportunity to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Jazzercise© in Chicago in November of 2009. It was my first convention, and I was amazed. While there, Judi Sheppard Missett, the founder of Jazzercise©, instructed a fabulous class with amazing routines that made it both fun and entertaining.

My favorite class, though, was the Dancin’ Abs™ class that was taught by Judi’s daughter, the Executive Vice President of Jazzercise©, Shanna Missett Nelson, and also, Young McCarthy, 11-year Instructor, programs and training specialist and corporate mentor at Jazzercise©.
