FAITH & VALUES
As a child, my parents held my hand. At times I suppose it was for my own good and to keep me safe. As I got older they may not have physically held my hand, but they did just that as they helped me grow and point me in the right direction. My parents still hold my hand even though they are miles away from me.  And now as a parent myself, I hold my children’s hands.
I see holding hands as an expression of love. You care about someone so much that you take their hand in yours and hold it tight. God holds our hand every minute of every day. He holds our hands when we are nurturing a new idea. He holds our hands when we are tired of deployment and don’t think we can carry on.
Our hands help us create great masterpieces. Whether you are an inspiring artist and use them to paint or take pictures, or you love to cook and make a grand meal every night for dinner-your hands help the creation come to life. If you performed those actions in love, they are creative acts of worship.
I struggle to come up with ways that I can worship the Lord. Mostly because I feel like I am stuck between cleaning and taking care of the house and home-school work. Here are a few ideas to help you get your own creative worship going.

  • Garden: Plant anything that looks of interest to you, and nurture it and watch it grow.
  • Vacuum: That may be mostly for me because I love to vacuum. I throw on some praise music, sing and vacuum away.
  • Exercise: You are honoring God when you take care of your body. I have started listening to Third Day and Skillet when I work out.
  • Laugh with your children: Enjoying the gift of laughter is music to God’s ears.
  • Feed the homeless: Make lunches as a family and hand them out to the homeless.
  • Watch a neighbor’s children: You are showing your neighbor love by taking in her child/children for a few hours so she can do what she needs to.
  • Sing: While that is not a new creative way to worship, some of us chose not to sing for the sake of others who might hear us. So, when no one is around, SING!
  • Hold hands: Hold hands of those you love. To express to them how much you love them is also showing the love of God.
  • Create an art piece: I love the handprint masterpieces that my children have created throughout the years. Make it original and all your own.
  • Step out of your comfort zone: Anything on this list could cause you to step outside of your comfort zone. Maybe there is something that isn’t on the list but it has been on your mind for a long time. Take a step of faith and go for it.

Our hands are used for many things. We comfort sick children, make meals, clean the house, pay the bills, type love letters to our husbands, lift them up to worship the Lord and fold them to pray. At times they are stained with colors from dying Easter eggs or from helping put the finishing touches on a science fair project.
