Over the years, one of the biggest questions I've been asked is, “What type of business should I start?” The answer really just depends. Sure, there are a lot of businesses that may be profitable, but does that mean they are right for YOU? No, not necessarily.
Starting a business and pursuing your dreams isn't easy. It sure is worth it, though, so why not pursue something that allows you to incorporate your creativity? Creativity is what sparks the soul-it is what gives meaning to what we do, not just for ourselves, but those for which we make a difference, too.
Over the years, I have been dazzled by the women and men I've met and the creative talent that each of them possess in their own way. I know somewhere, deep inside you, too, there's a creative genius just waiting to be discovered!
I know a realtor who is an amazing musician. He has a complete studio in his home and has been told many times that he should pursue his music as a career instead of real estate. He's recorded songs, posted them on MySpace and just needs to take the next step to pursue his dream. What's stopping him? I don't know for certain, but I also know that it's never too late to move forward.
A woman I used to work with (many years back) was amazing at making handmade crafts, all kinds of crafts for all seasons. Once a year, the company allowed her to bring in her work. Many of the employees would buy from her instead of shopping elsewhere. I think one year, I decorated my entire tree with her ornaments. She was that talented! We used to tell her all the time that she should go into business for herself.
What about you?
What's your inner talent that you've been secretly hiding or haven't pursued yet? I heard something on a local radio station a couple of years back that went like this: “Find what it is you love to do and figure out a way to make money at it.”
What's your first step?
The first step is that you have to allow yourself to be open to the possibilities. Take some quiet time and allow your heart to explore the things you love to do, which perhaps you've buried over the years. Only then will you start to open the door to your creativity. I didn't say it was going to be easy, but I did say it would be worth it.
It doesn't have to be complicated. Take out a sheet of paper and start writing down the things you love to do. Just make a list and keep going. Don't worry about whether or not you think you'd be able to make money at it. Right now, you're just making a list so that you can explore your possibilities.
Ideas to Get You Started
Here are some ideas to get you started: candy-making, photography, crafts, painting, web design, decorating, music, card-making, jewelry-making, pottery, party planning and scrap-booking. This certainly is far from a conclusive list, but you get the idea.
One Small Step to Unlimited Possibilities
It takes only one small step to get started and that begins with you. The possibilities are truly endless and your dreams can be within your reach when you take action to allow yourself to dream. Let your creativity flow. You can do it, I know you can!
